ArcGIS Pro

Deprecation of Support for Shapefile Network Datasets

ArcGIS Pro 3.2 will be the last release to support the shapefile network dataset as a valid file type. Although this file type can be displayed in the catalog pane and tool dialogs, the ability to create or edit a shapefile network dataset has never been supported by ArcGIS Pro. Additionally, ArcGIS Enterprise has never supported the publishing of services from shapefile network datasets. Please see the deprecation notice on the Esri Support site.

Esri recommends all customers using shapefile network datasets to prepare for this change by building their network datasets in a file geodatabase or enterprise geodatabase. Models and scripts that reference shapefile network datasets will need to be migrated to use network datasets in a file geodatabase or enterprise geodatabase.

Please use the Feature Class to Feature Class tool to migrate the shapefile network data sources into a file geodatabase. Refer to the “Create a network dataset” tutorial for detailed instructions on how to build a network dataset within a file geodatabase.

If you have questions, Esri recommends that you contact your Account Manger or Esri Support.
